Great looper; made me better at guitar
I think this looper is great. The quantization feature means the loops are seamless, and playing with the drum machine is a lot more fun than playing with a metronome—but has the same benefits for your (my) playing. I'm saying I love playing with it and I think it has made me a better player. I can't relate to the complaints from the 1-star reviews. To use the looper live… read more with a complex song might require the Footswitch, sold separately. But I see no need to erase while standing—and in any case you CAN erase the last thing you recorded just by holding down the button—so again I don't see what the fuss was about in that 1-star review.
Getting to know me
Excellent. Spend a few minutes reading the manual,if it seems a little confusing at first maybe check out you tube demos. If you get to know your gear you can really get more out of it.(especially a two channel stereo) Using tempo click can help dial in 12 bar patterns or whatever length you set on first layer. If your a simple set up player this might be a little more than you… read more need, but you have options that you may want to explore later, either way you already have it at your diposal.
It's pretty cool...BUT
I got this because i love the fact that you can put your own sounds and samples in it..horror sounds and keyboards are fun. BUT...as far as the looper goes. WIth the Firmware update they added the ability to erase the loop via the footswitch. The problem is though that for some reason they thought it was a bright idea for you to have to hold the stop button down and then at the… read more same time you have to hit the loop button to erase. Not only that...If you have a loop going on the B loop you have to do that one separately . Making this impossible to use in a live situation while standing up. If you are an acoustic player and sit down during your performance, this isnt that big of a deal..i purchased this because of the firmware update...Little did i know there was a catch to this "fix". I really wish i would have went with the tc electronics looper. They need to make it to where you can just hold the button down and it just erases A and B. Everything else about this looper is fantastic.Hopefully they realize how dumb their " fix " was and they fix it in another update...but i doubt it. The FIrmware was released two year ago it looks like.At least make it to where if you hold the stop button down it sets it to where you can just stomp on the a or b without having to hold stop at the same time... So irritated. Going to send it back and go another route. I am in a Rock band and it is pointless to keep it....what am i supposed to do? Hop on it with both feet at the same time? LOL...dumb
Firmware update (part 2)
Updating my previous review. I have had some time more time with this pedal. So please let me give you some better-informed opinions. As I stated previously, the firmware update solved all the issues listed in a 1 star review of this product written by an unhappy user. Customer service has been fantastic. They respond quickly and are obviously committed to the product. I use this… read more pedal to record song ideas. I run my guitar through the 1/4" right channel. On the left channel I run either a mic or a drum machine. It's got an XLR and 1/4" ts jack that can be switched. Also features fantom power and mic trim pot. There are a couple dozen drum tracks preloaded, with option to add more. I have yet to attempt adding my own tracks. Instead, I feed a drum machine into the left channel. I want a quick and easy way to get ideas down, and this little machine has proven well-suited to the task. Stereo option is critical for my uses. I have a stereo delay pedal. Often I route the mic or drums through the delay pedal before looping. Very cool. There are two tracks available. So you can build verse/chorus ideas in series. Or you can lay down fills and such on a parallel track. The undo/redo option works great. Very handy. SD card slot! It turns this pedal into a two-track recording machine. Leave the pedal on your board while you back-up your tracks on your computer. Quantization works great. In a nutshell, it allows you to create seamless loops that don't have rythmic hiccups from improper timing of footswitching. The footswitches have a great feel and do not add annoying clicks to the recording. Speaking of unwanted remnants in your loops, being able to switch off the mic is very useful. I wish the switch was more accessible, as this is a very handy feature. Other fun stuff: reverse, octave up/down, change tempo. Loads of fun. My five-year-old loves to play with this thing. He and his brother (eight) have made recordings with it. There are some aspects of the looper that any would-be consumer should know. Yes, there is a learning curve. There's a lot in this little box, and you need to read the manual. There is no midi integration. I wish that there were. The optional footsitch is rather pricy. Unless you are very handy with electronic hacking, I wouldn't risk using anything but the EHX option. Very happy with this unit. If you're new to looping, you might try something simpler. But if you want to step up from a single channel/track looper, I think you'll be glad to have this guy. It's a solid performer.
Firmware update
This review is a response to previous review complaining about this pedal. I was able to fix the stop/erase issues alluded to by previous review. A software update solved the problem. Electro-Harmonix has great customer support. I wish I could write more, but I have not had enough time to dig in yet.
