Limit without losing dynamic control
Most of what I do is direct to the house. This is the bass player's best friend. I can limit the peaks without losing dynamic control, by adjusting the threshold. Thank you, Mr Keeley.
Point and shoot but powerful and flexible
This is a good compressor for someone who is new to compressors or for someone who likes simple set and forget devices. The knobs are plainly marked as to what they do unlike other brands that put fancy or vague names on their controls. You just set the threshold, which controls how hard your playing can be before compression kicks in. Then you set the compression which controls… read more how much you want the pedal to even out the volume level of your playing past the threshold. Then you set gain so your volume remains the same as you turn the compressor on or off. I started with everything set at 12 o'clock and went from there. I ended up with threshold probably at 12:30 (it's very sensitive) and compression at 5:1 (first mark after 12:00)
The best bass compressor...
I was running a GK 500w 2x12 with a different compressor (Xotic) that was not giving the articulation i wanted at higher gain settings along with an audible "hiss"...problem solved..this pedal retains my fingerstyle definition without too much "squash", is completely silent in the pedal chain, is fairly transparent, and can add a nice signal boost. It took a minute to figure out… read more not having a "blend" knob, but with this gem one is not necessary at all...at minimum setting it retains all the pick or finger nuances you could ever want, or you can crush down on the compression and run it into a distortion pedal with no loss of clarity...simply the best...
I like it
Works great
Once a crutch, now a tool. Hats off to Mr. Keeley
Once upon a time I used an MXR Dyna Comp to smooth out a poor bass. This feels similar but being able to control the amount of compression is wonderful. A useful tool, especially when going direct into a smaller PA.
