Ampeg Opto Comp

This is a solid built pedal. Takes the wrinkles out of my playing and fattens up the sound. Ampeg has always been Bass friendly and this is a quality pedal. It is not a poser pedal its the real thing.

This is by far the best bass compressor I ever had. It does the job very easy, super clean and does not kill my sound. Awesome job Ampeg.

Great Smooth Compression for Live or Studio Use

I've always used a touch of compression in my sound, not only to even out all the notes, especially going up and down the neck, but also to bring out some of the harmonics in my tone and allow them to sustain longer after the initial attack. When I switched to a combo that didn't have built-in compression, I researched and went for this, as I love the Ampeg sound and dug the demos, read more plus I really enjoy the smoother effect of optical compression. After using it for about a year and a half with an Ampeg BA210 v2 in a large church band with 2-3 guitars, 1-2 keys, multiple vocalists, percussion, and more, I have found it to be perfect in making sure I maintain a consistent punchy sound, which helps the board bring my levels up higher knowing that transient volume spikes won't hurt the other voices in the band. The other thing I like about compressors is I wind up playing into them, similar to how one plays into an all tube amp. I can lean in much harder in my style without it overwhelming the mix, and while maintaining a strong sound when my dynamics become quieter. A huge part of the sound of clean bass on records and live performances is attributable to judicious use of compression. For me, the warmth of optical compression is the perfect way maximize one's volume and tone in a way that sits well in a mix and keeps the sound full and punchy throughout one's dynamic range.

It Is Great

I have had the Opto Comp for over a year and it works fantastic. I have PF500 with its own compressor built in, stopped using the on board comp., a couple of days after i started using OPTO COMP. The on board compressor was to restrained, The OPTO COMP has more control, and much more effect.

Easy to use, quality feel!

I had been doing lots of research looking for a compressor for my bass. I settled on this one because it's super easy to use and it feels like a quality build. I like the fact that it doesn't squash my tone like some of the other compressors I checked out.
