Genuinely a great guitar
I was thinking of buying the vintera jag but then I saw reviews about unrounded frets, the dryness of the pau ferro fretboard, and the usual buzzing problems. I decided to take my chance on this guitar, despite not being a fan of signature series (and not going for the Nirvana sound), because I heard the tune-o-matic bridge was very reliable, in addition to the fact that, for just… read more slightly more money, you get a hard case, rounded frets, amazing pickups and proper placement of the tremolo. I was not disappointed. The guitar is great. No buzzing on the higher frets (although I get a little metallic pinging on the g string [doesn't come through the amp however]). My only beef is the laminated fret edges add a little more girth to the neck and although the instrument is supposed to have a modern C neck, it feels a little fatter than my Mex Strat with a modern C to D neck. It presented little problems for getting my thumb used to it, however, and the 24" neck more than makes up for it (I can easily do hammers from my thumb on the 5th to my pinky on the 8th with my, lets say, "less than ideal" hand size). I wouldn't recommend any other jag short of one of those ~$2k American versions (and even there they often have the old jag/jazzmaster bridge that you WILL have to replace with a mastery or mustang bridge). Very pleased, well worth the wait
Awesome guitar
This was an Impulse buy. And I don't regret it. The short scale had me worried. But it'll handle all my nirvana covers. And really the distortion pup in the bridge slot is just nasty. Had it in drop d for a jam last weekend. And quickly is becoming my go to. Now I want an American Tele lol. Does more than nirvana. But not for super modern low tunning. Not sure if drop c would… read more even work.
Fender Kurt Cobain Jaguar
Great neck feel! Very playable guitar! Wonderful sustain!
Buy this guitar
I was looking at this guitar for months before finally pulling the trigger. As soon as I opened the case I knew I made the right decision. Great guitar for grunge but also very versatile. Not just a one trick pony. You can get all kinds of different sounds out of it. Mexican Fenders have come a long way too. The craftsmanship is on par with any American Fender I have ever seen.… read more They resell for almost the same price as new so might as well get it new right here from Sweetwater. If you have seen what's happened to the Cobain Jag Stang and Mustang you are also making a good investment with this. This was my second guitar from Sweetwater and no need to look elsewhere. Their customer service is the best among any company I have dealt with. Will be back for another soon!
Not just a Fanboy guitar
The guitar has an amazing construction, and a unique set up when it comes to the pick up selection, I've seen other musicians play this same setup Because there's so much of a dynamic possiblity. The wiring looks good and a bit complex, of course it won't be the same as a regular jaguar but a luthier should be able to figured it out. I bought this specific Jaguar not because of… read more the Kurt Cobain tribute although he is one of my favorite grunge artists, but because it has a ton of things I wanted on a Jaguar, humbuckers instead of single coils, modded pickup selection for easier switching between neck and bridge, and just things I would have done to a regular Jaguar to make it a bit more efficient. The playability is awesome, although brand new the frets are a just a little bit too sharp, nothing a file and masking tape won't fix, when not plugged in the guitar has a lot of projection and some unwanted rattle because of the tremolo end, definitely recommend breaking in the tremolo spring because its squeaky. To end this review, I can say this is a well rounded instrument, not just for crazed fans but for serious guitarists who want a good diverse guitar.
