Holds its weight against the American strats!

Ethan

American pro 2 strat, player plus strat and mexi strat are what I have to compare this to… and let me see not one of them excites me as much as this one. Extremely smooth rolled frets, beautiful soft but bright pick ups and amazing QC.

It's a Silver Sky!

Had this since first released so this is not honeymoon phase review, this is the real deal! PRS simply nailed it again. I have owned a couple of the US PRS Silver Sky guitars so I know this to be true, this is the same sound, feel and vibe of it's US counterparts. You have to keep in mind that these are CNC made bodies and necks, in both US and Korea at the CORT factory. read more The ONLY 3 differences on this SE version is the neck radius is 8-1/2 versus 7-1/4, which is something so minor you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. Another difference is non-locking tuners, but same look and feel otherwise. The last difference is the truss rod cover is the typical PRS type instead of the dog-tag shape of the US version. Pickups sound fantastic, identical to my ears to US version. Same look, same neck carve and satin finish on neck, same body contours, low weight (mine is just under 7 pounds). Bottom line, this guitar to me, gets you the same experience at about 1/3 of the price of a new US version. The very minor differences to me, are worth saving the money. Thanks PRS for offering this excellent option of the Silver Sky, a very cool guitar that most can now afford! Best thing I can say is play one and see for yourself! And special thanks to Sweetwater for posting all these with serial number and weights, actual pictures, and excellent customer service as always!

Pleasantly Surprised

I expected to receive a solid well made guitar when I ordered the SE version of the Silver Sky well my expectations were wrong. This guitar is way past that level. Since receiving it I've used it for some part of every single gig and the entirety of my praise band sets where it works beautifully. The other guitar player is a dedicated Les Paul guy and with two keyboard players as read more well I'm able to occupy a different area of the sonic spectrum and cut through the mix with ease. The neck is smooth and easy, it stays in tune well and looks great. What's not to like?

Yes!

I have two strats. An American Standard and an Elite. I like them both. Like Dottie! But I could never love them. The strat PUs make a very unique noise when the string is plucked. The best way I can describe it is "thu." It just never seemed to me to ring out clearly like it should especially on the wound strings. Anyway, the SE SS just rings true like I always imagined a strat read more should. Yes!!! Then there's the strat neck which I like. Like. But again, it always seemed I was working just a bit too hard, especially with bends. The neck seemed a bit long, but just a bit. The SE SS somehow pulls the forest fret closer to your body. Since the neck is said to be 25.5, I can only guess they shortened the body a bit. The thing just fits me so well. The neck is so easy to play. The whole setup is just so comfortable. Overall, the Silver Sky SE is the guitar I was always trying to imagine my strats were. I feel like I'm bad mouthing Jesus when I talk about strats this way. They're just somehow sacred. But the truth is, the last thing I thought I needed was yet another guitar (25+?), but I think this the SS SE may be "The One." It just feels so very right after a very long, very expensive search.

Great Guitar for the $$$

First the guitar needed very little adjustment out of the box which surprised me. Second my first interaction with it was going to be to replace the pickups, but after playing it a bit I decided to put it off a while, the stock ones are much better than I anticipated. Fretwork was above par for the price point. The radius was the surprise that threw me, the greater radius neck than read more standard Silver Sky actually keeps my bends in bounds. I actually like it more in hand than the borrowed S. Sky I was playing. Cons- Yeah, I have two that are purely aesthetic. I hate the feel and shape of the horrid grey plastic tuner knobs and the matching jumbo trashy looking truss rod cover. They could lose those to dumpster dive ornaments next iteration. I'll be looking for something to replace them with. They can not stay. Otherwise I'm 100% satisfied with its sound and playable performance and would rate it on par with my American Pro II Strat. I'd highly recommend this one.

Amazing Guitar

This guitar has the feel and sound of a much higher priced guitar. It is well worth the money. Color is great and the details of manufacturing are very well done. Sweetwater was awesome. They held the guitar for me until I could get there to see and play it in person.

Amazing guitar, unbeatable price

I was lucky enough to grab a demo model with a nearly unnoticeable ding on the back of the body near the neck and crack in the volume know. I'd been staring at these for months and waiting to be able to compare with a Strat Player. When the chance came to get one now (instead of late this year) I couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't. Have played it for a couple weeks and out read more at a gig. The things you read and see in reviews are accurate. The pickups sound fantastic, neck feels great (rolled edges of the frets are a nice touch), it's light and just plays incredibly well. It's the tone that keeps me picking it up day after day, though. Truly great!

Excellent Guitar on a Budget

First let me say that the Sweetwater staff is top notch. Due to international shipping delays, my order was delayed several months from when I purchased it. Sweetwater kept me updated routinely - and even got this guitar in my hands a few months before they anticipated. Onto the guitar: this is my first PRS. I have a Fender custom shop strat that is my main point of reference read more for comparison. Right out of the box this guitar felt amazing. It does not feel like a $900 guitar. The body is light and comfortable. The neck and action are smooth and quick. Everything frets cleanly and bends feel smooth and natural. The aesthetics of this guitar are great. I love the color and the matching tuners and other features. The pickups sound great and have a tone distinct from the traditional strat sound. The gif bag is a nice addition. I love playing it and love finding new tones with it.

Just amazing!

You know how you want something for so long, and when you get it you're disappointed? Well this is not the case. This guitar has exceeded my expectations In tone, intonation, playability and just everything. I can't put it down! I got mine yesterday and would have slept with it in my bed if my wife wouldn't have gotten mad. I have two other PRS guitars and love them. But this read more one is going ahead of my 2017 American Pro Strat! The pickups on this guitar can go from sweet and mellow to gnarly and mean so quick. And there is never a point where you lose the twang. The high end rings out in the bass notes! How did they get these tones!! The action was setup high for my taste and the tremolo needed balancing, but that took 5 minutes and it hasn't gone out of tune yet. Just a great guitar!

I just wanna start by saying I I wasn't a fan of Mayer growing up, I knew of him but never stopped to listen to his music. So iv been looking for a strat with these specs for years, I tried custom shop strats, Nash and Danocasters and the felt wonderful but something was always off. I bought this one with out trying first. Let's just say it was a good choice. Straight out of the read more box it played really good, but once I added my strings and set it up how I like it, chefs kiss! I'm glad JM and PRS teamed up the guys have good taste. The one thing that surprised me was clay dot markers on the side! Also shout out to Matt LaMarch. He helped me choose this guitar and listened to my preferences.

SE Silver Sky dragon fruit

I have to give this instrument high praise , I own two core models , I'm a fan of these guitars they sound and play as good as any high dollar Strat I've ever played The SE is very nicely made, it is very close to the core, apart from locking tuners and the two piece saddle, and saddle pins being not flush with a lowered action , this guitar sounds excellent, the pickups sound very read more clean , and great when I driven tones, I first tried three , on a solid state amp and thought the drive tone wasn't defined, now I played it through a tube amp, and it plays beautifully, the playability is first class I can't say I notice the radius felt that much different than the 7.5 core model , the neck feels very smooth , the neck is comfortable , just a little thinner than the core .The paint work finish and hardware is very good , the tone is all there, for me personally I cannot fault this SE in any way what's so ever , I first played three of these in a store, two blue and one cream color , and the quality was very consistent on all three, my own personal SE is no exception,It is very well made , it doesn't go out of tune, it's musical , I'm extremely happy with this SE. Let's hope they keep the price consistent, it's a bargain . Highly recommended, Paul and John Mayer have done it again very nice instrument indeed !!!

Well done PRS

This is one of the best guitars I have owned. The neck and fret work is really good. The pickups sound great. The color is very dynamic and reacts to light dramatically. I think the evergreen will look great with stage lights.

Pro-grade guitar with looks to match!

I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have to wait for them to restock, and I have to say the SE Silver Sky is the most incredible "budget model" guitars I've ever played. If someone played one of these and told me it didn't play and sound like a $2,000 instrument, I'd call them a liar. One thing that really surprised me was the sustain! Every note rings like a bell. It almost read more reminds me of a piano in that sense. The neck is extremely comfortable to play, PRS' quality is always unmatched, and the pickups are amazing right off the bat! I'm a strat guy all day, but the Silver Sky is in a league of its own…

Single coil magic in the PRS form factor

I have played Stratocaster for 25 years. The PRS Silver Sky is not a Strat. It the modern PRS form factor that can give you some 60's vintage tones. With the three balance pick ups it has some tones of its own. These are great to play. The guitar is light with a great neck. This guitar is the perfect practice companion. The PRS quality is excellent. It is not a replacement to the read more original Silver Sky. It is 90% there but the USA made version is better in tone and solidity. As always my sales engineer Josh Lively was excellent and keep me informed through the purchase. Everyone has similar prices but few have Sweetwater service. Bring the candy back we miss it.

Love My PRS SE Silver Sky

Jennifer Ludes

I love this guitar! I wasn't sure at first...took a chance. Was afraid it'd be just another mid-tier strat/clone but I've gotta say, this thing holds it's own! Setup was spot on, zero issues and ready to rock out of the box. For me, any guitar I own (and keep) has to bring something new to the table for sound etc and this one does. I suppose the only thing I'm not too crazy about read more are the gray plastic tuning machine heads. They look a little cheap, though they work fine. I'll give it some time to see if I get used to them and if I change them out, it'll be for a set of locking tuners anyway. But really, at this price point, I can't complain! And props to Sweetwater for getting this out to me as quickly as they did and, of course, awesomely packed!

PRS SE Silver Sky!

I love this guitar! I was so excited when these were finally announced after all of the rumors. I ordered one as soon as I saw they were available. The feel, tone, and playability of this guitar are all great! It's the same price as a Fender Player Series Start (which I own), and I feel that it is a much nicer guitar. The color is beautiful. The ease of play is amazing. I read more have actually never played a USA Silver Sky, but would love to try one out. This is my third PRS, and all of them have been top notch guitars!

Worth the money!

Jonas Dei

This is my third Silver Sky - yes, my third! I've owned two USA-made core SS models in the past (golden mesa and tungsten both with rosewood fretboards); both were great and exceptional! I now, however, only own the PRS SE SS in the beautiful dragon fruit color way! The core models, if you have the money, are very much worth the money (in my honest opinion), but if you want a SS read more and are on a budget, I would NOT hesitate to buy the SE version. It is an AMAZING guitar for the money. The neck is not as chunky as the core USA model - feels slightly slimmer, but it's still chunky enough for my hands - which I prefer. The satin finish on the neck, the rosewood board, and the frets were all perfect right out of the box. To be honest, for a third of the price, you get a lot of the USA version - or at least a lot of its similarities. If you can afford the USA-made SS, then go for it, but if not, get the SE version! As much as I loved my USA-made SS models, after having and playing the SE version, I just didn't need them anymore. Huge, HUGE fan of this guitar model. It'll be in my arsenal for a very long time!
