Wow! Balanced guitar...
This guitar is extremely balanced. The pickups are very balanced in tone and volume, something I appreciate very much. Also, there's no headstock dive, and the body/neck weight is very balanced. I think this would make a great guitar - I've played a Yamaha Pacifica (around the same price range), and I would say this one plays better. Great job Squier!
Blown away...
I have been playing guitar for the past 30 or so years. I've played Fender Custom Shop Teles, Gibson Les Pauls, and many high quality strats from Suhr, Nash, Fender, Squier, Ibanez, etc. I decided to find myself a cheap strat under 200 bucks and see what I could get with it. So I bought a Donner strat, an Indio Strat, Glary strat, this Squier bullet strat, an affinity strat, Kramer… read more Focus, and a Squier Mini Strat. Now the Donner was probably the best, so I thought, but when I tried it, oh man, I mean, this Bullet strat just blew me away. It was like "Whew!" I highly recommend this guitar to beginners (and ADVANCED players) and intermediate players. No matter where you are on your guitar journey, this guitar will be a great guitar to have. Pros: - HIGH quality neck, fretboard, fret ends, etc. - Great quality pickups - sound awesome - Good finishing work - Affordable price - Great tuning stability without the trem; high sustain Cons: - No trem system (if you require the tremolo system) Overall, I am extremely impressed. Although I respect Squier Classic Vibes, I must admit this bullet plays better than the Squier Classic Vibe '60s strat that I have at home. It's just amazing.
Wow, I'm impressed!
I bought one of these with a project in mind but noodled around on it for a bit before parting it out and have to say I was pretty impressed. The pickups sound surprisingly good and the fret edges were surprisingly smooth. The fret edges tend to be pretty rough with super cheap guitars in my experience, but this neck is not bad. One of the initial feelings of this guitar, and many… read more cheap guitars in my experience is the tuning stability, but this is more for the fact that the tuning machines were just not that tightly wrenched into the headstock, but once I tightened it it was pretty alright. The tuning machines are decent. The lack of a tremolo I think helps add to that tuning stability as traditional Stratocasters of course have a tremolo and whammy bar. My biggest gripe with the guitar though was definitely the electronics. They wire the 2nd Tone control to the bridge pickup which is cool, but the knobs just have so little resistance that is is very easy to inadvertently lower your Volume knob, but putting like a rubber washer under it might help that problem. The electrics are all pretty cheap Alpha mini pots and switches and I have no doubt the electrics will crap out at some point just based on the solder joints. But yeah, just adjusting pickup heights, tightening a few nuts, and maybe jamming some rubber washers under your knobs and you definitely have a the DNA of a Strat. Extremely impressed with it.
Yeah I’m giving it 5 stars.
I've been playing for over 30 years, and have owned just about everything from boutique builds to entry level stuff. I've never really been a Strat guy even though I've tried several times. Let's face it, there are certain sounds that you can only get with a Strat. With that being said, I wanted some of those sounds on the cheap. No, you're not getting the best of tonewoods or hardware,… read more but everything is pretty solid. The frets are level and have no sharp edges. They aren't really polished very well, so they feel gritty when bending. The back of the neck wasn't super smooth either, but some 3000 grit polishing pads made it super smooth. I'll use the pads on the frets when I change strings. These are very minor gripes that are easily addressed. The electronics work well, and sound okay, not the most authentic Strat sounding, but serviceable nonetheless. Tuning machines work well, and the guitar holds tune very well. I believe I got a good one. I couldn't be more pleased for such a low cost, and it feels pretty solid.
Great solid basic guitar
I'm a bass player who started out as guitar player many many years ago and have always liked the Les Paul style of guitar. I wanted to try the Stratocaster thing so I got this and also wanted hard tail so I didn't have spend 20 minutes tuning to play it for 5 minutes. For a $170 this Squire amazes me. The body and neck are solid and well built. I know I need to change out the tuners… read more and pickups to really make it worth it's time and will do so. This guitar is perfect for what I want. Even as a hard tail the strings bend like butter, I've been missing out all these years on this style of guitar.
