No to Source Audio
Bought the Source Audio Vertigo Tremolo pedal hoping it would be cool because of the three different tremolo sounds it supposedly offers. It was all shiny and pretty when it arrived. But the pedal was defective. It didn't work. Its shiny prettiness was completely useless. I usually purchase pedals made by Boss -- the industry standard for rugged, stage-ready stomp boxes -- but I… read more wanted to try something different. I won't ever buy another Source Audio pedal. They are cheap crap. Sweetwater Music was great about the return. Their customer service is first-rate. So I just continued to use my old Boss Tremolo pedal, which still works great after all these years. Yay, Boss!
Digging the Vertigo
I love tremolo, particularly when used with two amps. I have and EHX Stereo Pulsar which I have been using for years. Was going to pick up another one for a project I am working on away from my main studio. When talking with Chris Barry about my project, he turned me on to Source Audio, the Collider. Was so impressed with what they were doing that I decided to give the Vertigo a… read more try. More expensive than the Pulsar, but the sound is great and the parameters, particularly with the Neuro, seems quite limitless!! I think it is well worth the price. Really impressed, even though I only have had the pedal for a couple of weeks, with what Source Audio has done. Thank you Chris Barry for your suggestions, and to Sweetwater for running a very musician friendly company!!
Excellent Tremolo for the Price
I'm relatively new to pedals, and one of the first pedals that I used was the Zoom MS-70CDR on which I found myself really liking the tremolo but wanting more options. After spending a lot of time, considering the Strymon Flint and ultimately deciding that it wasn't worth its price, I settled on this Vertigo Tremolo, and I am not at all disappointed with it. The Vertigo has three… read more different types of tremolo, a "normal" tremolo, which is your standard trem, a "harmonic" tremolo, which adds some light modulation, and a "bias," which is the least distinctive to my ear. Source Audio says that it saturates your tone, but it's subtle at best (might be more noticeable in a recording environment). The real magic comes in the knobs, the speed knob is extremely sensitive and great at dialing just the right rate of tremolo. There is also a level knob which helps to prevent any signal loss. For my rig, I find that it needs to be cranked all the way, but it does work as intended. Lastly you can control the depth of the modulation effect and change the shape of the modulation. You can easily run the effect in stereo, and the stereo effect was very noticeable in my recordings using this pedal. Also, nice is the option to control via expression pedal or MIDI, although these may require other Source Audio accessories, and using Souce Audio's software, there are quite a few more options to tweak the pedal. I would have liked to have seen an option to control the speed via tap tempo, but alas, that does not appear to be an option as of this writing. Overall, this is a great pedal, and the only reason I am counting off is that Source's True Spring pedal seems to offer the same sounds with the addition of reverb, so it may be a better value.
Sweet trem from Sweetwater
5 Stars for Oscar and Sweetwater. Another seamless purchase. American Strat, Lone Star ,bla bla bla. Nice pedal
